Biomaterials for bone replacement have been used for decades in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for filling defects. The discovery in the late 60s of bioactive or bioactive glasses glasses (BGs), capable of forming at its surface a biologically active layer in contact with biological fluids, has driven research in search of new innovative biomaterials bioactive properties for the manufacture of an ideal scaffold for bone tissue.

In a recent article published by the Spanish Journal Gaceta Dental CINN researchers explore the adequacy and the promising potential of bioglasses as biomaterial in tissue engineering, both hard and soft and fascinating applications in dentistry.
