Biomet Metal-on-Metal Hip Implant Litigation Update

Posted by / in Blog Health, Featured News / No comments yet

A multidistrict litigation (MDL) organized in Indiana (USA) and involving the Biomet’s M2a Magnum Hip Replacement System has been recently settled. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 1,268 patients who allege metallosis and the federal judge overseeing the litigation recently approved a two-part settlement agreement for at least $56 million.

Metallosis is characterized by dangerously elevated levels of chromium and cobalt in the blood caused by the shedding of microscopic particles resulting from the abrasion of metal components and it’s considered the most important limitation of metal-on-metal joint implants with an estimated incidence of 5% of metal hip implants.

Detailed information about this litigation process was published last March 26th by PRWEB.
