The CINN promotes a research model with a strong market orientation in which competitive innovation is the goal. But overcoming the so-called "valley of death" and bringing new products or processes arising from research into the market is not an easy path and in many cases it requires desiging tailored exploitation routes that may include the creation of spin-off companies or establishing strategic alliances with technological companies in order to turn CINN knowledge into successful innovation.
The Mutifunctional Materials Development Unit was established in collaboration with industrial partners in 2013 with the aim of generating the necessary knowledge to overcome the barriers that nowadays prevent the industrial use of the Spark Plasma Sintering (also known as Field Assisted Sintering Technique-FAST) technology.

Our Hybrid SPS-HP Technology
The hybrid SPS-Hot Press sintering furnace of the CINN was built-up by the German company FCT Systeme GmbH. Its dimensions are: 12 meters high, 6 meters wide and 5 meters deep and it's currently the World’s largest SPS-HP hybrid furnace.
This equipment has been customized to obtain dense nanostructured materials (metals, ceramics or composites) with dimensions close to those of the final products and diameters of up to 400 mm. View pictures
